Dear fellow friends of Europe,
2008 was an eventful year. It brought Kosovo’s independence, the collapse of Lehman Brothers, the election of Barack Obama and most importantly the first edition of Europe & Me.
Only one decade ago the founders met in chilly Berlin and created the idea of a magazine for the whole self. Stunned by the lack of magazines in the European media landscape with which young people could identify as “Europeans”, they hitched up their knickers and got to work.
The eight founding editors could not have been more diverse. They came from Germany, Austria, Latvia, Poland, UK and Bulgaria and studied journalism, law, German, European studies, philosophy and economics. They published E&M’s first issue on 1st July 2008, and the topics were as diverse and insightful as their authors.
Ten years on, various projects, prizes, amazing contributors from all corners of the planet and more than 1000 articles later, it was time for a revamp.

And what better way than to create a brand-new online presence? After some frantic weeks of preparations, discussions and creativity, the Editorial Board is proud to introduce our new and improved website!
We are so excited to share it with you! As you will discover for yourself, we have changed and improved a number of things but the core of E&M stays the same. So, before you dive into our new platform, a few announcements: our exciting Baby section has been renamed Sex, our logo got under the knife as well and we invite you to follow us on our Instagram channel.
Issue 40 is a special one: we kick off on this new website with pieces on topics ranging from sustainable travel to digital nudes and to further unravelling of European identity questions! Our archive will be updated in the coming weeks, so you will be able to find some gems from past issues very soon.
We take this opportunity to send special thanks to all current and former contributors. An amazing 1000+ articles have been published under the name of E&M thanks to you, and we hope there are many more to come. And for those of you landing here for the first time and getting excited about the project get involved here!
