German Scholarships

German Begabtenforderungswerke

If you plan to study in Germany possibilities are ample. In total there are eleven major scholarship organisations that are mostly linked with political parties or churches, which grant stipends for foreign students studying in Germany. Find an overview over the different organisations and their procedures of application at www.begabtenfoerderungswerke.de and www.stipendiumplus.de.

The largest and oldest organisation granting stipends is the "Studienstiftung des Deutschen Volkes". Having operated through a system of recommendation exclusively since its foundation in 1925, the organisation now also allows for self-applications. Every student in the first year of study, including foreign students, may apply and take part in a test. The most successful participants will be invited to an admission seminar, 500 places in seminars will be reserved especially for this programme. Here, the students will have the opportunity to show their academic and personal abilities and aptitudes in interviews. Applications are accepted between 5 February bis 5 March 2010. For more information, visit www.studienstiftung.de.
