In November 2011, the Körber Foundation and E&M organised "Debating Europe", a discussion about contemporary issues with a European dimension. The event aimed at bringing high-profile personalities from the fields of politics, business, society, science, and journalism who have an extraordinary record of work focused on Europe together with talented young people who stand out due to their exceptional enthusiasm for European questions.

Benita Ferrero-Waldner, former European Commissioner for External Relations and European Neighbourhood Policy, and Adrian Lungu, E&M author, reflected on the inside/outside dimensions of the EU dilemma in Croatia, and its possible meaning for other south-eastern European countries. Our editor Johannes Himmelreich joined the debate. The talk was chaired by Matthias Naß, who is international correspondent for DIE ZEIT.
In a competition before the event, authors submitted pitches for research articles. Adrian won and wrote a great article on Croatia that served as a basis for the discussion.
