What we expect from you

Are you getting excited? Ok, here are our requirements. The formal criteria are as follows:

  • you must be below 35 years of age
  • you must be proficient in English (preferably English on the level C1 of the European reference frame which is equivalent to iB-TOEFL 100 points or IELTS 6.5 points)

That's it. So formally you can be studying or not studying and it doesn't matter what you're studying. Other things which don't matter: your background, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, nationality, place of birth nor any other formal criterion you could think of. While we appreciate experience in fields related to the work of E&M (e.g. in journalism) we mainly care about our informal criteria.

Interest in Europe

You really have to be interested in Europe. Otherwise you will never make it through our recruitment process. But the trick is: Europe is a state of mind. A concept. Tell us about your concept of Europe. Tell us about European nights in a corn field, your European moments in south-east Asia, or your first "European sex party". And one more trick: never call us Europhile or Eurolovers. The truth is hard to accept and the truth is also: we have a fetish for Eurolovers and Euroscepticists alike.

Reliability and responsibility

Ok, up to here the criteria might have sounded relaxed. But now we are getting serious: we need people who are 100% reliable and responsible. E&M is a bit like magic: 50 people work somehow for three months on an edition and nobody has a comprehensive overview of what is going on. But – somehow – 'simsalabim!' the new edition appears every quarter within the lee-way of a few hours. What seems like magic is nothing more than people who feel a duty to make this magazine a success.

Team play

Some people play tennis, others play football or basketball. It is not as straightforward as this comparison but we are looking for people who are true team players. Look around you. Can you see any people? Focus on your feelings. Do you feel it would be much more fun to work with others? Ask yourself. Could you stand back for the sake of others, the team, or the success of the project? If you answer these questions with yes then E&M is a good place for you.

Drive for growth
If you grow E&M will grow. Do you feel like a little bean pole which has to reach the sky? Are you like spongebob – still small and sweet but eager to discover the world? We are happy about everyone who wants to learn new things, who sees mistakes as opportunities, who wants to push E&M and who will not be satisfied with second best solutions.
