What you can expect from working with E&M

E&M is a voluntary project and nobody gets paid money for doing it. Nevertheless, more than 100 contributors and more than 10 editors put a huge amount of time and enthusiasm into working with us. You might wonder: "Why do they bother?" Here are a few of the reasons.

The cause
E&M is working for a good cause. An evolving European society needs European media. Only then can there be a common public discourse, which is the foundation of democracy and citizens' sovereignty. If you work for E&M you're doing something good for the citizens of Europe.

Join a diverse team!

The people
If you join E&M, you'll work with exceptional people. We come from more than 20 countries, we speak dozens of languages. We work together and live our dream: a new state of mind - Europe. We have Hong Kong girls who love Europe, Swedish businesswomen who love writing about sex. We have authors, winners of national informatics/mathematics and history competitions, fencing champions. And who's still missing? You!

Learning
Learning often comes by doing. At E&M, you will have many 'first times' from day one on: editing your first article, writing your first funding application, coming up with your first press release. There will be many new things to discover and many areas in which you will gain experience by trying out your own ideas. On top of that we train ourselves together in workshops and seminars for editors and authors. Where else could you think about recruitment techniques and the weaknesses of an article about the Hagia Sophia on the same day?

Realising your ideas
Our motto is 'Make it your project!' We can't wait to hear your new ideas and we are even more eager to help you realise them within the E&M framework. In the past, new editors have transformed the project - inventing a blog section, or establishing a new partnership. Add your part to the project!

Fun
If we could only give one reason it would be this: fun. Can three-hour skype conferences be fun? Can you laugh after you worked until 7 am in the morning to get the next edition online? Can you party after finishing a 76-page funding application? Having a good time while working hard for something inspiring is what makes E&M succeed. Join us and find out yourself. But be careful: some say there is a E&M drug which will make you addicted faster than you can imagine.

Career
We hate to say this, but as we want to get you on board, we have to: E&M will help your career. Just imagine yourself in a job interview explaining in a business suit what the BABY section of the magazine is about and why it is really relevant. Voilà! You can be sure that the recruiter will not forget you. Ex-editors have taken up positions in some of the world's most demanding doctoral programmes, they work for leading banks, top newspapers, or in business consulting.
